The Effect of Organic Mulches on Soil Moisture and Crop Growth
註釋The main objectives of the research project reported were: to study the timing of rye killing in a rye/soybean system, where the rye is planted in the fall, chemically killed and mowed in the spring, and soybeans are no-tilled through the rye mulch; to investigate the effect of rye mulch on soybean growth & yield, soil water, and soil temperature; and to model the effect of a rye mulch on soybean growth under various weather scenarios. The report begins with a literature review on mulches, rye cover crops, the effect of mulches on soybean yields, and crop growth models. It then describes the experimental design, establishment of field sites in southern Ontario, and measurements taken, and presents & discusses the results. These relate to rye growth, mulch accumulation, soybean phenology, soybean growth & yield, soil water & temperature, and performance of the crop model.
