Solomon Islands, timber control unit project
註釋In January 1989 the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) requested the Australian International Development Assistance Bureau (AIDAB) (now Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID)) to provide funding for institutional strengthening of the Timber Control Section of the Forestry Division, Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) (now Ministry of Forests, Environment and Conservation (MFEC)). After some negotiations between SIG and AISAB, a design document for the Timber Control Unit Project (TCUP) was agreed upoon in July 1990. AIDAB contracted the implementation of the project to an Australian consulting firm, FORTECH, and the recipient agency within the SIG was the Forestry Division (FD), MNR. The goal of the project was 'To provide the MNR with greater capacity to control the timber industry in the Solomon Islands in accord with the Forest Resources and Timber Utilisation Act and the proposed Environment Act by strengthening the Timber Control Section of the FD according to forest policy and by establishing stronger liaison with the Environment Division in monitoring activities and public awareness campaigns'.
