The Journals and Letters of Fanny Burney (Madame D'Arblay)
註釋"The manuscripts of the Letters and Journals of Fanny Burney (Madame d'Arblay), for a century inaccessible to scholars, are now being edited by Joyce Hemlow, and a group of editors at McGill University. In the edition of 1842-7, much material was suppressed. Volume I of the new edition includes many new letters and restores in extenso first-hand accounts of contemporary scenes and persons as they were originally written. Volume II is largely the story of Fanny Burney's courtship and marriage. It contains the letters and notes exchanged between Fanny Burney and the Chevalier hindrances they had to overcome or defy before they could marry. In its exploration of sentiment, and its rising crescendo of interest, it reads like an epistolary novel of the period. The index in Volume II covers the first two volumes. It is expected that there will be a further eight volumes to complete the edition."- Joyce Hemlow.
