The purpose of this contract has been the study of new techniques and devices for obtaining tunable radiation across wide regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Principal accomplishments include: the construction and demonstration of the first optical parametric oscillator operating in the 9 to 11 micrometers spectral region; and the proposal and demonstration of the first nonlinear optical technique for access to the vacuum ultraviolet. A brief technical summary of these projects and also of the iodine laser project is given. (Author).
