Madrid--judíos, herejes y brujas
註釋Traces the history and activities of the Inquisitorial tribunal of the Court in Madrid. At first under the jurisdiction of the Toledo tribunal, the "Despacho de Corte" became independent after 1650. Describes the proceedings and powers of this special tribunal. Pp. 65-85, "Criptojudaísmo", analyzes the court's anti-Judaizing campaign in Madrid against the few Spanish Conversos and, after 1580, against Portuguese Conversos. The persecution was nourished by accusations of Judaizing, host profanation, and image desecration, and reached a climax between 1680-99 and again in 1720-30 with numerous autos-da-fé and harsh sentences, far more than against Protestants and other heretics.
