註釋Reports height and survival of selected provenances of white spruce in 20 field experiments in Ontario with about 300 provenances. The experiments consist of three series initiated with seed collections between 1953 and 1972, which sample different parts of the range of the species. Tree age from seed at the time of measurement was 20-28, 31-33, and 10-18 years in the oldest, intermediate, and youngest series respectively. In each series, 5-15 of the tallest provenances identified during previous measurements and 2-5 of the shortest provenances were measured. Best provenances in each region are noted and effects of such variables as natural selection, inbreeding, and northward shifts are discussed.
