Chaos on Walker Mountain
註釋Lieutenant PJ Coulter knows his best friend, Gordon Lemley, killed an inmate at the United States Penitentiary at Walker Mountain. But he can't prove it - not yet anyway. Then, Warden Rance Stolt arrives at the old prison, imposing a "new order" that no one understands. In an attempt to get PJ off his trail, Gordon ingratiates himself to the new warden, orchestrating a showdown that banishes PJ and his staff to the outer reaches of the institution. PJ, undaunted and at his own peril, takes the murder investigation underground.
Harold Beaman, still recovering from being the object of a crazed killer and witnessing one of his gruesome murders, finds comfort in the break provided by PJ's exile. Then, an inmate, "The Baker," informs him of an escape plot, drawing him into the turmoil surrounding Warden Stolt.
Inmate Bubble Murphy stumbles upon the escape plot, too. His friends, The General and Johnson, are planning it. Bubble watches in disbelief as one of them worms his way into Warden Stolt's inner circle. His friend's behavior deeply disturbs Bubble, threatening an opportunity he never dreamed he'd have: getting out of prison.
The characters' lives intertwine, forging strange alliances as each man negotiates the complex and turbulent relationships between the prison staff, the inmate population, and the unforgiving culture of the institution itself. Will our characters survive as Warden Stolt's world changes everything and Chaos descends upon Walker Mountain?
