註釋Certain aspects of the surface chemistry and physics of various inorganic solids -- crystalline metals and ceramics and amorphous silicate glasses -- are examined in order to illustrate that the surfaces of such solids are likely to be structurally, chemically and electronically distinct from the bulk of the solid. Finally, attention is focused on the application of surface science to certain areas of technology -- metal cutting, ceramic machining and other fields of interest. (Author).
