註釋Little Wen is a little girl who grows up in China, a large country with a long history and traditional values. The world is full of wonders to her fresh eyes, curious mind and strong passion to explore. But at the time of the story, China was a society where girls? inquisitive natures were suppressed and where lively young personalities were shaped to confine to rigid social expectations. Wen, who refuses to yield, has to make room for herself to grow. In book 6 in the series, seeing the neighbors wife taking care of babies, Xiaowen cries for a baby too. Mom suggests that she raise something alive first. Uncle brings two chicks, a rebellious rooster and a submissive hen. Xiaowen is finally able to play the role of a "loving mother." At the same time, she learns that unsuited love sometimes results in injury as she loves her chick to death.
