Viral Infections of the Nervous System
註釋A remarkable spectrum of neurological diseases has been produced experimentally with viruses. Slow infections of man have proven to be primarily neurological diseases, and interest in viral infections of the nervous system has burgeoned. This book has been written with a clinical audience in mind. This book emphasizes the biology of the nervous system infections, based on the premise that only the understanding of mechanisms can lead to rational and innovative diagnosis and therapy. Advances in viral genetics are giving meaningful definitions to neurovirulence and should allow the future construction of rational vaccines. Additional knowledge of the transcription and translation of viral proteins and replication of nucleic acids will allow us to tailor chemotherapeutic tools, which can block virus replication without destroying the host cell.
