註釋209 color lithographs of three landscapes and 117 portraits of Native American tribal representatives sent to treaty negotiations at Fond du Lac, Prairie du Chien, and Washington, DC from 1821 to 1837. Drawn by lithographers Childs & Inman, Lehman & Duval, and J.T. Bowen, each subject is dressed in tribal attire with feather head-dresses, face paint, metal and bear-claw necklaces, arm and ear ornaments. Tribes represented include Cherokee, Chippewa, Creek, Osage, Oto, Seminole, Shawnee, and Winnebago. Famous Native Americans include Red Jacket, Sequoyah, Wanata, Mahaskah, Pocahontas, David Vann and John Ross. Of note, two portraits of Delaware Indians commissioned for painting by William Penn in 1737. Copied from original art by Charles Bird King and James Otto Lewis, each lithograph was drawn on stone and hand-colored with watercolors and egg tempera. Volume III concludes with maps of locations of tribes in North America in 1833 and 1843.
