The Best of Eliza R. Snow (Volume II
註釋Eliza R. Snow is without a doubt one of the most monu-mental figures in early LDS history. Her influence and accomplishments are many: she served as the first secretary and second General President of the Relief Society, helped organized the Primary Association, and served as president of the board of directors of the Deseret Hospital Association. Today she is best remembered as a poet, with nearly 500 poems to her credit. This is the second of two volumes highlighting the most significant published poems of Eliza R. Snow, beginning with the exodus from Nauvoo in 1846, and continuing through 1881. Included are the favorite hymns ?Behold the Great Redeemer Die? and ?How Great the Wisdom and the Love,? along with lesser-known poems such as ?Bury Me Quietly When I Die,? and the controversial ?Ultimatum of Human Life,? here printed under its original title ?Instructions of the Priesthood.? The importance of these poems lies not only in their historical significance, but in the opportunity they afford to obtain insights into the life and mind of one of the truly great women in the early Mormon Church.
