A Catalogue of the Donations Made to Norwich City Library 1608-1656
註釋Norwich City Library was established in 1608 in three rooms set aside in the house of Jerrom Goodwyn, swordbearer, which were to serve both as a lodging and as a library for preachers. It was arguably the first provincial municipal library foundation in England, independent of either church or school, to be established after the Reformation. Joy Tilley describes the context in which the library flourished and struggled in the political and religious upheavals in the city, and provides biographical details of the citizens who donated books to it.
