註釋
Although only the federal government is empowered to set immigration policy, the consequences of immigration are felt in states where they settle. This book focuses on New Jersey, whose immigrant population resembles the racial and ethnic composition of the U.S. population as a whole and whose immigration impacts have been relatively favorable. The authors draw lessons from the New Jersey experience about what states should expect and how they can help new immigrants manage the transition into the economic, social, and political mainstream. They examine wage and employment impacts, state and local fiscal impacts, public opinion toward immigrants, fertility, birth outcomes, education, political behaviors, home ownership, and undocumented immigration.
