It covers a wide spectrum of distributed programming models and makes a relative comparison of various message passing models, concurrent languages, and distributed programming languages. The authors treatment of exchange functions (which is not widely available otherwise) discusses some of the issues of realtime programming languages. After a brief review of computation theory, programming languages, synchronization mechanisms, and primitives of distributed computing, the authors discuss seven models for coordinated computing, various programming languages, and the problems of organizing distributed systems. Recommended for those interested in distributed programming, or as a second level course on programming languages for graduate students.
