Simulation of Flow Control Algorithm for Multi-lane Automated Highway Systems
註釋ABSTRACT: The increasing social and economic burden of highway congestion coupled with high construction costs and difficulties faced in expanding the current highway infrastructure triggered interest in recent years on alternate methods to increase highway capacity. Technological developments in control systems, sensor technologies, communications and data processing capabilities make it possible to automate the decision-making process and execution of driving maneuvers with greater accuracy, lower response time and higher safety than human controlled vehicles. The combination of advanced technologies, information sharing and use of analytical tools to safely increase traffic throughput epitomize the motivation behind the Automated Highway Systems (AHS) program under development. In this work, the activity based theory of traffic flow is applied to describe a link layer controller to ensure smooth traffic flow under conditions of high traffic volume.
