Three major turning points are emphasized: the official conversion of Iceland to Christianity in A.D. 1000; the Reformation around 1550; and the transition to the modern age around 1900. The only previous history of Icelandic Christianity written in English was published in 1946. The present book is aimed at the general reader, and has special relevance in view of the upcoming thousandth anniversary of the adoption of Christianity by Iceland.
