The Black Box
註釋The Black Box is a story set in the turbulent years towards the end of the 17th century when the Duke of Monmouth landed to claim the crown of England from his uncle James 11 for the Protestant cause. The Jolliffes, a non-conformist family who farm in West Dorset, are caught up in the momentous events which culminate in the Battle of Sedgemoor and the Bloody Assizes in Dorchester. The story follows the adventures of the main protagonists Ethan Jolliffe and Lucy Wells.Their adventure is gradually unravelled in the 21st century by the detective work of a young descendant called Caddie who is staying on the Jolliffe's farm. She is helped by an osteo-archaeologist from London.Though The Black Box is a work of fiction, historical and archaeological evidence is carefully woven into the narrative which follows events as faithfully as possible, making it particularly enjoyable to those who like learning their history through stories.
