John Stuart Mill's aim in the book is to explain what utilitarianism is, to show why it is the best theory of ethics, and to defend it against a wide range of criticisms and misunderstandings. John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher, political economist, feminist, and civil servant. One of the most influential thinkers in the history of liberalism, he contributed widely to many movements, social theory, political theory and political economy as well as noted contributions to human rights, political freedom, and politics & government. Utilitarianism is often required textbook reading in courses that encompass, politics & social sciences, philosophy, utilitariansim, and ethics & morality.
