The School Superintendency in Alberta, 1976
註釋Before 1971, Alberta Education maintained a staff of school superintendents deployed throughout the province as agents of the provincial government and also as educational advisors & administrative officers of local school authorities. This changed with the School Act of 1970 which mandated that every local school authority employ its own superintendent. Concerns of the problems that had subsequently developed in the role & position of the superintendent led to the study reported in this document. The general purpose of the study was to take stock of the role & position of the school superintendent as it evolved over the 1971-75 period of change and to identify ways & means of clarifying & strengthening the position. Findings are presented & discussed with regard to the personal characteristics of the superintendent, conditions of employment, the superintendent's legal position under the School Act, the perceived skills of the ideal & real superintendent, the functions of the executive, and superintendency responsibilities & relationships. Appendices include a literature review on school superintendency, cross-Canada comparisons of school superintendency, results of questionnaire surveys & interviews, and a review of the education system & its administration in England.
