註釋
Known as the best fisherman of his Connecticut community, Wilford Woodruff became one of the greatest fishers of men of the Latter-day dispensation. When he was 23, he resolved to "do the will of God as far as I could learn it." He carefully examined scripture and when he found Mormonism, he was convinced it matched what scripture described as Christ's Church. He had asure testimony of Joseph Smith: "he is like a bed of gold concealed from human view. . . . God alone can comprehend his soul." Wilford received calling after calling eventually as one of the Twelve Apostles. His legendary missionary service, on full display in England, is unparalleled inChurch annals. Feeling the command of the Lord to go to the South of England where nomissionary of the Church had yet gone, he cleared a pool for baptisms and during the next eight months he not only baptized over 600 people in that one pool, he baptized 1,200 others in other locales. Such was the faith of the man who became the fourth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
