註釋
At a men-only pond, elderly and celibate Mark is befriended by Harold - a gay psychologist, long married and a grandfather. Mark breaks free of the unsettling friendship by taking a holiday on a Greek island. Unemployed actor Luke - in the park with his infant son - meets Suzie, recovering from a breakdown. A free spirit, she enables Luke to find 'a kind of freedom' by understanding his sexuality. In a bid to save his marriage to Meg, a teacher, he books a family holiday, as it turns out, on the same Greek island as Mark. Here Mark and Luke become friends.A heatwave tests relationships and brings memories. Mark recalls childhood abuse. Luke separates from Meg. Miranda, a foreign resident on the island, writes her Island Tales about the island's outrageous foreign community, which are interwoven into the main narrative. Meanwhile at the pond, the star of the gay bathers, a Russian asylum seeker nicknamed Nijinsky, has become homeless and mentally ill. Richard, a solicitor obsessed with Nijinsky, goes to Russia to find out why he sought asylum. Mark, returned from the island and having learned of Harold's death, also tries to help the disturbed and disturbing Russian.Peter Tegel, playwright and translator, has written numerous radio plays broadcast by BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4 and abroad. His BBC radio play Happy Depths of a Homophobe, with Derek Jacobi as Mark, is an adaptation of part of his novel of the same title - which, together with his memoir, From A Faraway Country, is also available as a Kindle ebook edition.
