Ottoman Headgears
註釋The Book of Ottoman Headgears by H. Necdet İşli is the first comprehensive work in this field, and is recommended for being a scientific study where a reading of the various kinds of headgear figures in Ottoman tombstones presents important clues for also understanding Ottoman social structures. Taking various tombstone headgear figures representing status diversities as starter, the book tries to articulate the social richness in Istanbul during Ottoman era and thus appears to be a reference book as a contribution to urban awareness for cultural values. In the Ottoman society where the art of sculpture practically did not exist, the tombstones were an important part of the city culture, almost an art by itself with peculiar stone crafting and scribing on them.
