註釋Tunkwa Provincial Park is one of only two substantial protected areas in the plateau landscape of the Thompson River portion of the southern interior of British Columbia. The park covers just over 5,000 hectares located 45 kilometres south-west of Kamloops and is significant for its grassland ecosystems, trout fishing, and recreation opportunities. This background document first introduces highlights of the park's history and management, then describes its natural resources, recreation/tourism and visual values, cultural features (including First Nations use, ranching use, water licenses, and toponymy), and the park's significance in the provincial Protected Areas System. This is followed by chapters on land tenures, rights, and resource use in the park, plus existing and potential tourism and recreation opportunities. The final chapter discusses key issues for park management planning, such as recreation and livestock management, road upgrading, the presence of feral horses, and lack of information. Appendices include excerpts from relevant planning documents and lists of plant and animal species found in the park.
