End of American foreign aid to Africa: Shock therapy for Africans
註釋

The author, who is an African, looks at the impact of cuts of foreign aid to African countries by President Donald Trump and contends that it is a blessing in disguise for Africa. Ending foreign aid will force African countries to be self-reliant instead of begging all the time.

He further contends that it is not the responsibility of Americans and Europeans – as well as Asians in some cases – to take care of Africans and solve their problems. He also argues that African countries have more than enough resources to solve their problems but those resources are being wasted and stolen by leaders and that the amount stolen far exceeds the amount the countries get in foreign aid every year.

He says Trump is the only American president who has administered chock therapy to Africa, the best form of treatment the continent desperately needs to start to be self-reliant. Otherwise the struggle for independence from colonial rule by African leaders was meaningless.

He further states that it is wrong to force American taxpayers to have their money sent to Africa to take care of Africans when they can take care of themselves and when a significant amount of that ends up in the pockets of corrupt leaders and other people many of whom are already rich.

Even the last president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta who is the son of Kenya's founding father and first president Jomo Kenyatta, agreed with Trump's decision to end foreign assistance to Africa. Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, was the first African leader to praise Trump when, during his first term, he used very strong language to describe African countries. He said he loves Trump because he tells the truth. And as former president Uhuru Kenyatta stated at a conference in Kenya to describe Trump's decision to end foreign aid to Africa:

"I saw some people the other day crying 'Oh, Trump has removed money, he's not giving us any more money.' People are crying, why are you crying, it's not your government, it's not your country. He has no reason to give you anything. Why? You don't pay taxes in America. He's appealing to his people. It's up to you folks. This is a wake-up call for you to say ‘OK, what are we going to do to help ourselves?’

Instead of crying, ask yourselves, what are we going to do, he has stopped funding, what are going to do to support ourselves? Because nobody is going to continue holding out a hand there to give you – it's time for us to use our resources for the right things. We are the ones who are using them for the wrong things.”

The author also argues that the United States and European countries should not allow Africans to immigrate to those countries anymore. They should stay home and help bring about fundamental change in their home countries.

They will be forced to confront their leaders and exert maximum pressure on them to change or be replaced by new leaders responsive to the needs of the people.

He says the people who want to emigrate to America and Europe constitute an integral part of the critical mass needed to bring about fundamental change in Africa and some of the new leadership for their countries will come from them.

He further contends that Africa has suffered a massive brain drain through the years, as highly educated people and other professionals continue to flee the continent, and it can't afford to lose such people anymore. They should stay in Africa and make sacrifices to bring about fundamental change. Otherwise the continent is doomed.
