註釋Sustainable development continues to be a positive goal in all fisheries and aquaculture activities, and its achievement in capture fisheries, especially, is dependent on improved management. Yet, how are international initiatives faring in the effort to ensure sustainable exploitation? "The State of the World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2000" discusses several issues associated with possible improvement in this area: understanding the concept of property rights in relation to fisheries resources; identifying practicable sustainable development indicators and applying the precautionary approach in marine fisheries; and considering the benefits, as well as the complexities, of ecolabelling.
