註釋
This research was conducted to determine the physical and chemical characteristics of four biochars produced from biomass sources readily available in Northwest Missouri. Measured properties included: Water holding capacity, bulk density, thermal decomposition rate, pH, crystallinity, elemental composition, molecular and microscopic structure. The biochars exhibited similar levels of cellulosic crystallinity, basic pH, and surface chemistry. Key differences were observed in gravimetric water holding capacity, bulk density, trace metal concentrations, carbon concentrations, C/N ratios, individual particle structure, degrees of alkalinity, and thermal decomposition. These results suggest that the source of biomass used in production of biochar must be considered when it is used as a soil amendment.
