註釋This document presents a comprehensive overview of published campaign polls in many democratic countries. It reports that, while direct regulation of polls is rare, there is growing concern about their influence. It examines regulations now in place, and others that have been proposed. It also examines the professional codes of the World Association for Public Opinion Research and of many national organizations, including those formulated by news organizations. It discusses the attempts of polling organizations and the news media to establish mechanisms of self-regulation.
