"Adopting a constructivist approach, the author/curriculum designer presents and deconstructs his role as participant-observer, a role Mills, Bonner, & Francis (2006) describe as a reflexive, reflective, and pro-active stance for research (p. 9). He introduces an original curriculum on the life and times of Andy Warhol and discusses the place of queer identities within an English language classroom. Following Nunan (1996), the author presents the planned and implemented curriculum. By focusing on the life and times of Andy Warhol, students are given the opportunity to respond to many non-normative subjects. The curriculum presented also allows for students to write on a daily basis-responding to the text, to the teacher's writing, and to the lives of other students. This helps students negotiate their identities in the target culture while also respecting their identity markers from their home culture. To provide a comprehensive understanding of the approach taken in developing this curriculum, the presenter provides the theoretical perspectives from both English as a Second Language research and Queer Theory"--Document
