註釋'Colloquia' was first published in 1518. Erasmus had begun the work as a conversation manual for his students in Paris in 1497. He composed a series of dialogues as models of light, after-dinner Latin conversation. Twenty years later a publisher picked them up and scored an excellent success. Erasmus continued adding to this collection almost until his death. The 'Colloquia' are extremely varied in theme and manner. Typically each takes its rise from an idea, a note or observation on life, a proposition to be proved, disproved or at least examined. Each colloquy is a clash of opinions or a conflict of behavior.
