註釋
In 1986 a pilot study was conducted in the Johnstone Strait sockeye seine fishery to assess total chinook mortality. Catch statistics presently recorded are determined from records of chinook sales and are suspected to underestimate the catch of small (3 to 5 lbs.) and adult (over 5 lbs.) chinooks, and seriously underestimate the total mortality of all chinook. Data were collected for catch per seine set by species and size categories of chinook, the number of sets made by vessels per day, and the total number of vessels per day active in the fishery. Calculation of total catch involved extrapolating the estimated mean catch per set over all sets made and incorporated the Monte-Carlo bootstrap technique to determine the mean catch estimate and 95% confidence interval.
