註釋Memoirs of German Jew, born in 1927 in Karlsruhe, where he experienced the Nazi persecution during his childhood. Niedermann was deported with his family in 1940 to Gurs, and from there to Rivesaltes. In 1942 he succeeded in escaping from the camp, together with his younger brother, with the assistance of the Oeuvre de secours aux enfants (OSE). His brother was smuggled out through Portugal to the U.S., while Niedermann fled in 1943 to Switzerland. Besides his brother and grandmother, the entire family was murdered in the Holocaust. After the war Niedermann settled in Paris. In 1987 he testified in the Klaus Barbie trial.
