This report sets guidelines for turbidity and for suspended and benthic sediments, as appropriate, to protect drinking water, freshwater and marine aquatic life, recreation and aesthetics, irrigation, livestock watering, and industrial water uses in British Columbia. Introductory sections define terms, review methods for analytic determinations, and review natural and anthropogenic occurrences of these water quality parameters in the province. The guidelines presented include information on effects of the parameters, rationale for the recommended guidelines, and water quality criteria as reported in the literature, where available. The final section discusses research and development needs.
