註釋The Urban Foundation, registered as an association not for gain, was established following a conference on the quality of life in urban areas in November 1976, which was attended by many of South Africa's leading businessmen and community leaders. Its objectives are to work with urban residents to improve their quality of life, acting as a catalyst by mobilising the resources of the private sector, involving communities and gaining the co-operation of the authorities. Soweto is the largest urban Black community in South Africa. The Urban Foundation sees its role as one of helping this community solve its problems by bringing it together with the private sector in projects, and by lobbying for appropriate policy and procedure changes at all levels of Government.
