註釋
Jonathan Swift remains today what he has always been -- the supreme English satirist. He was English in the sense that he wrote English, was active for long periods in English politics, and retained an unquestionable loyalty to the Anglican Church. But his roots, his clerical appointments and many of his causes, were all in Ireland. One of the main considerations of this lucid and authoritative study is to show Janathan Swift -- satirist, Whig man of letters, Tory journalist and Irish patriot -- in the context of his life and period.
