Return'd Convict, Or, The Horrors of Transportation
註釋Describes the exploits of one George Robinson, a convicted robber transported for life to New South Wales. Tells of his six-month voyage and arrival in the "coleney" and his escape into a wood whereupon he and his six companions were robbed of their clothes and food by a "savige tribe" and subsequently tried in Sydney town. After suffering a severe flogging, the author describes escaping aboard an American ship which took him to New Zealand. There he was saved by kind natives, with whom he lived until he once again set sail for Scotland by way of Boston. The woodcut vignette depicts an overseer armed with a whip supervising two manacled convicts. In the background, a transportation ship is pitching in the dark sea amidst bolts of lightning.
