註釋The introductory sections of this document review current budget and economic developments & prospects for Canada, including fiscal progress achieved, the reduction in national debt, and outlooks for taxation, budgets, program spending, & public debt charges. The subsequent sections deal with the government's budgetary strategies & actions to strengthen the health care system, invest in families & communities, encourage economic productivity & innovation, strengthening the military & national security and international trade, improving expenditure management & accountability, and achieving sound financial management. Annexes provide information on spending and tax relief since the 1997 budget; further tax reduction plans; the Air Travellers Security Charge; Canadian financial performance in the international context; fiscal performance of the federal-provincial-territorial government sector; accounting in the government financial statements; budgetary balance, financial requirements, & the national accounts balance; response to the report of the Auditor General on Canada's financial statements; and tax measures.
