The collection consists of scrip certificates and also receipts, 1888-1900, for shares bought by J R Brown in various gold mining companies, mainly the Heights of Alma Gold Mining Company (Eidsvold), and Mount Rose and Stockman Junction Gold Mining Compnay (Maryborough), and the South East Uniting Mount Craven Gold Mining Company; miner's rights 1881-1905; correspondence 1887-1900 relating mainly to gold mining; miscellaneous receipts, accounts and documents, including the prospectus (1888) of the Heights of Alma Gold Mining Company; newspaper cuttings, "The Mines Regulation Act of 1889" amd "Draft of a Bill to Constitute the Commonwealth of Australia."
