註釋This study provides a national overview of planning for the built heritageenvironment. It begins with a brief overview of the international contextand definition of heritage legislation followed by a description of federalgovernment activities in the field of man made heritage preservation. Themajor programs of the non-government Heritage Canada Foundation areoutlined. The majority of the report is an overview of heritagelegislation, policies and programs for each province and territory. Threelevels of administrations are discussed - provincial, municipal andprivate. The major purpose of the report is to present various mechanismsutilized the provinces/territories to preserve the built environment.
