註釋In the past two decades, the influence of midlevel charitable donors--defined in this study as donating between $2,000 and $20,000 in a year--has declined as that of major donors increased. In response, this study aimed to better understand midlevel donors by examining their approaches to charitable giving and the extent to which they give to high-impact organizations. We analyzed descriptive statistics and multivariate probit models using a novel study of 1,260 midlevel donors. We found that respondents were least likely to give in response to fundraising appeals and most likely to give to organizations that worked on causes or issues they cared most about. The more they gave to causes they cared most about, the more they gave to high-impact organizations. Our results suggest that the key to helping midlevel donors give more effectively is to first help them to identify what issues they are most passionate about.
