註釋Alice (b. 1874) and Claude (b. 1865) Askew were a husband and wife team of British authors who working together wrote more than ninety novels, published between 1904 and 1918, and died together in 1917, when their ship was sunk by torpedoes from a German submarine, just south of Corfu in Italy. During World War I they had traveled on the continent of Europe writing books and articles about the war conditions there and became involved in raising funds to help Serbia. Their book, "The Stricken Land: Serbia As We Saw It," published in 1916, was the result of their time spent living in Serbia during 1914 and 1915, accompanying the Serbian army during their retreat across the mountains from Prishtina to Alessio.
