Robert Atkinson (1742-1817) was a native of Yorkshire, England and immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1774, later settling in Sackville, New Brunswick Several of his family members migrated to Ohio in the 1830's. William, his grandson (1812-1879), was born in Sackville and came to Utah in 1853. His descendants live in Utah, Idaho, and elsewhere.
