註釋This report presents recommendations on the adequacy of current procedures and guidelines used to estimate minimum passing site distance (PSD) requirements for highway design and pavement marking. The research involved a review of current practice, an extensive analysis of various alternative PSD models, and field studies of passing maneuvers on two-lane highways. Video data collection was used to study distance traveled by the passing vehicle in the opposing lane, the speed differential between the passed and passing vehicles, and the deceleration rate used by the passing vehicle when the passing maneuver was aborted. The report includes specific text recommended for inclusion in the next edition of the AASHTO "A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets" (the "Green Book").
