註釋Yurupary is a prehispanic myth that may have existed for thousands of years. Both Colombia and Brazil lay claim to the legend. It was recovered for Amerindian literature at the end of the 19th century, when an ethnographic and anthropological investigation was opened in the zone of Vaupés. As far as is currently known, "The legend of Yurupary" was written in the ñengatú language by the Brasilian Indian Maximiano José Roberto, who gave the manuscript, in various fragments, to his friend, Ermanno Stadelli, who translated it into Italian, organized the text and published it under the name Leggenda dell' Jurupary in the Bolletino of the Società geografica italiana in Rome.
