Baby Lies Truthfully
註釋British poet & artist DAVID ROBILLIARD was born in Guernsey in 1952. He moved to London, where he made that city's working class neighborhoods his home. Artists Gilbert & George declared him their favorite contemporary poet: "The new master of the modern person. Looking, thinking, feeling, seeing, bitching - he brilliantly encapsulates the 'Existers' spirit of our time." Gilbert & George published his first book of poems & sketches, INEVITABLE, in 1987. SWALLOWING HELMETS followed in 1987, published by Van Abbemuseum, Einhoven, Holland, in conjunction with an exhibition of his paintings & drawings. BABY LIES TRUTHFULLY marks the publication of the first of the poems to chronicle his battle with AIDS & records with uncompromising humor & insight the final journey of an indomitable poetic spirit. David Robilliard died in 1988 at the age of 36. "Line drawings & poems...fill out the pages of this new, posthumous volume from the pen of the late David Robilliard. There is a serenity spiced with wry humor & there is, too, so very much said in so very few words. Cocky & defiant...the drawings & the blank spaces emphasize the abrasive & optimistic feel of the whole."--The Gay Times, London, October '90.
