Priorities in Language Education
註釋Language education is one of the most important areas of the curriculum, not only because of its importance in the social, cultural, and economic life of the community, but because it provides the foundation for all other learning. It is also one of the most difficult areas. The increasing demands being placed on schools, demands which are often conflicting and always competing, have raised important questions about what should take priority in the language programs offered by the school. The study reported in this monograph set out to address these questions by means of an investigation into community views on what kind of language education is best suited to the needs of Australian students in the junior secondary school in the 1980s, including both English language education and education in languages other than English.
