註釋
This study explores the experiences of stress and coping amongst a cohort of paediatric oncology nurses in a major Australian paediatric hospital. It was apparent through conducting a comprehensive literature review, that defining the stresses and identifying the causes and strategies for reducing stress, was a complex matter, for which there is not easy solution. Little if no evidence was found to support the solutions suggested in the literature for coping with stress. In order to obtain rich data, a qualitative study guided by the principles of grounded theory was deemed the most appropriate method of enquiry. Applying these principles allowed the experiences of paediatric oncology nurses working in a specialist unit to be captured. Categories were identified through interviews and constant comparative analysis of the data. The research study commenced with the aim to identify stressors and mechanisms or strategies to alleviate stress. While seemingly straightforward, what transpired was the identification of a complex web of categories, intertwined and dependent on each other.
