Describes the intellectual evolution of Brasillach in order to explain the ideological and artistic functions of fascist mysticism and its sources in his work. Pp. 145-153 analyze Brasillach's approach to the Action Française and its leader Maurras, and antisemitic elements in the thought of Brasillach. Chs. 4 and 6 deal with his activities as editor of the journal "Je Suis Partout" before World War II and during the Vichy period. Brasillach's antisemitism is characterized as neither entirely serious nor racist, unlike that of other French extreme-right intellectuals.
