註釋The 1890 letter is a printed form letter asking for help in identifying and describing as many bird species as possible, with a long manuscript note appended, in which Bendire gives more information on the volume he is planning to write and the information he is looking for. In the 1893 letter, written after volume 1 of his book was published, Bendire describes the terms of his project in depth. Both letters are on letterhead of the Smithsonian Institution, United States National Museum.
