註釋Traces the despoilment and persecution of the Jews in the Hérault region between 1940-44. With the arrival of Jewish refugees from occupied France and Europe in 1940, the number of Jews in Montpellier, Béziers, and Sète tripled to nearly 1,200. By 1942 there were 4,200 Jews in the region, including those interned in the camp of Agde, of whom ca. 250 were deported. Describes the role of the antisemitic interim administration in the Aryanization process, as well as attempts by a sympathetic prefecture to help the Jews. Pp. 51-86 contain lists of stolen Jewish property. Pp. 87-120 present statistics on Jews in the Agde internment camp and lists of deported or evacuated inmates, lists of Jews arrested in roundups and deported to Drancy, and names of Jewish youngsters eligible for work placement. Describes activities of Jewish organizations, and efforts of non-Jewish locals to rescue Jews. Deals, also, with Jewish resistance fighters. Pp. 161-214 contain documents.
